Came together in May 2010, with just a few people, it has now grown into a thriving group of like minded individuals.
We meet once a month to further our Spirituality in the Carmelite Way together in a bond of community.
The Carmelite family or community has a tradition which reaches back over 800 years within today's Christian Church. Founded on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land. Most of its members are 'lay' that is unordained people just like you and I.
The International spiritual family or community of Carmelites began not as a religious order but as a community of mostly lay people gathered on the slopes of Mount Carmel in the Holy Land at the beginning of the 13th century.
Over eight centuries people have felt called to Carmel: some as friars, enclosed nuns, or active religious sisters; others (the lay,) within the context of family life; still others as single people either living alone or in small informal communities.
In Ireland there are many different people who live as Carmelites, all seeking to allow God to touch their lives. Many of these are members of the 'Carmelite Third Order', that is the part of the Carmelite Family for lay people and diocesan clergy who are inspired by Carmel's values and wisdom.
In Moate and the surrounding area which the Carmelite Priory here in Moate Co Westmeath serves, we have a newly formed lay order community, which is open to all interested in seeking their path of spirituality in the Carmelite way and tradition.
